Sunday, Dec 26: Lucas Dreier (7:00pm, Zoom event)

Hearkening to the Message of Mother Earth: The Kogi Way of Knowing

The Kogi people of Colombia cultivate a living relationship with Mother Earth that enables them to understand what she is saying. In a world beset by a range of ecological, moral, and epistemological crises, and as technology offers human beings ever-expanding worlds of virtual experience, how can the wisdom of the Kogi help orient us toward the development of a living, earth-centered, spiritually engaged way of knowing?

Originally from Massachusetts, Lucas Dreier has been working for over a decade with the Kogi people of Colombia, conducting anthropological research and collaborating on projects to protect their territory and share their message.

Meditation and Prayer

Have you ever considered how prayer and meditation differ from one another, yet also seem at one, with aspects in common? In tonight’s presentation, Michael will take up this subject, sharing his own insights and those from the work of Georg Kühlewind before inviting a conversation among those who wish to give voice to insights and experiences.

Michal Vode taught high school English at Regis High School for four decades. He has been a student of anthroposophy for many  years, as well as a member of The Christian Community.

This program is being offered as a free gift to everyone. Still, your tax-deductible donation here as a show of support for our community, however modest, will be warmly received and appreciated: http://anthroposophynyc.org/donate/

Wednesday, Dec 29: Larry Young (7:00pm, Zoom event)

Portrait of an Artist: Kathie Young (1949-2021)

A Presentation of Kathie Young’s Life and Work

When Kathie Young was 41 years old, she saw an exhibit of children’s art and crafts at the Princeton Waldorf School. Inspired by that first-time encounter with the ideas of Rudolf Steiner, she immediately formed a study group on “Knowledge of the Higher Worlds”  I came into her life shortly afterwards. We fell in love, married and co-founded the Phoenix Group, a non-profit art center that offered art classes to children and adults. During the next ten years Kathie painted a large number of watercolors that were packed away in boxes when we moved to Canada in 2001. I rediscovered her paintings two months ago.

This presentation hopes to lift those watercolors into the light again, and in the process shine some light on the life of the remarkable human being who created them.

Saturday, Jan 1: Olivia Dreier (7:00pm, Zoom event)

Radical Empathy and the Path to Uncovering our Common Humanity

The tendency towards polarization in human relationships and society at large is age-old but seems to be accelerating at an alarming pace in our country and around the globe. Sharing stories from her work in war-torn countries such as Rwanda, Sri Lanka, and Bosnia, Olivia will reflect on how we can develop the capacity to awaken to those we “other,” by reaching across the very deepest human divides.

Olivia, a lifelong student of anthroposophy, recently retired as director of Karuna Center for Peacebuilding where for the past two decades she has led programs on reconciliation in parts of the world that have been torn apart by violent conflict, work that has left her in awe of the human capacity to forgive.

Tuesday, Jan 4: Joyce Reilly (7:00pm, Zoom event)

Janus Workshop

In this workshop, we will recognize that we stand at the moment of the Turning of the Year, a unique opportunity to form a picture or embody a gesture of the past twelve months and imagine ourselves into the hope for what comes next.

We will use some of the principles of Psychosynthesis, a psychology of the human being which embraces the spirit, to guide our self-examination. Please be prepared at home (or wherever you’re Zooming from) with paper or clay, colored markers, pencils or whatever artistic tools you enjoy, to make an individual and personal representation of 2021 and 2022.

Joyce Reilly is a lifelong student of Anthroposophy and the struggle of the human spirt to be recognized and supported in our times. She has been a Waldorf administrator and a therapeutic teacher, a Psychosynthesis therapist and now, a life coach.
