Understanding the Slavic Soul:

A primer for Westerners

presented by Serguei Krissiouk

May 5, 2022

Westerners are little aware of the post-communist Russia’s imperial aspirations and geopolitical doctrine of Eurasianism actively promoted by the neo-fascist Russian philosopher Aleksandr Dugin. This doctrine is essentially a declaration of the Russian messianic empire-building function and of Russia’s relentless struggle with western liberalism and democracy.

Despite the seemingly uniform, homogenous processes of global interdependence and standardization, there exist profound differences in Western Anglo-Saxon and Eastern Slavic perceptions of soul-spiritual and cultural values. The East-Slavic peoples carry a special quality, one characterized by Rudolf Steiner as “oneness of soul,” that is in actuality a seed for humanity’s development in the next epoch.

Westerners are also little aware of how their economic/cultural hegemony is perceived in Slavic regions. Even less are they aware of the chasm, made apparent by the current military cataclysm, lying between the cultural and political orientations of Ukraine and Russia, despite their both being Slavic. Current external events of aggression and brutality, yet also those of self-sacrifice and unconditional service, reveal inner states of soul-spiritual life in the participants.

Serguei Krissiouk sheds light on the underlying currents at play here. He draws on Rudolf Steiner’s insights presented in his lectures GA 158 “The balance in the world and man, Lucifer and Ahriman” and GA 113 “The East in the light of the West.”
