Rudolf Steiner’s Calendar of the Soul Verse 49

Introduced by Michael Vode

Ich fuehle Kraft des Weltenseins:

So spricht Gedankendklarheit,

Gedenkend eignen Geistes Wachsen

In finstern Weltennaechten,

Und neigt den nahen Weltentage

Des Innern Hoffnungsstrahlen.

I feel the strength of Cosmic life:

So speaks cognition’s clarity,

Recalling its own spirit growth

In nights of cosmic darkness,

And towards the nearing Cosmic day

Inclines innermost rays of hope.

The six lines convey an approaching springtime brightness of triumphant, ideal humankind existence.  The first four lines re-call the strengthening gesture of a winter wakefulness exertion which in the last two lines will trans-form into an outgrowth looking forward.  That recall entails the human “spirit’s growth” out of “cognition’s clarity” in “nights of cosmic darkness,” our bred human capacity the indwelling center-stage, microcosmic life that stands in for and enshrines the macrocosm’s diminished powers on earth in winter time.  Our “spirit’s growth” overcoming desecrating, desolating powers.  The human being’s winter-illuminated procession then (in the last two lines) turning towards “the nearing Cosmic day” of inmost hope-radiance.  Hope-radiance divinely conferred through our initiated trust—realized in steadfast meditative activity.
