Autumn 2019 Annual Appeal

MEETING A CRISIS IN THE WORLD

Dear Friends,

We recently chose our new branch slogan, “Defend and Reclaim the Truly Human,” out of a deep sense that this extraordinary time in our world-unique city is calling out for it. Humanity is under attack on all fronts! An overwhelming-seeming coalition of adversity bears down on us: the collapse of civil dialogue, corporate indifference to human welfare and dignity, political paralysis (over guns, climate change, racism, wealth disparity), and growing invasions of artificial intelligence and transhuman technologies.

Where are the champions of human values who can withstand these challenges?

The answer, of course, is that we are those champions and the place is everywhere, but particularly at our 138 West 15th Street center. Confidence in the integrity and significance of human life and evolution lives here, nourished by an inexhaustible resource: the multi-faceted understandings, knowledge, and practices within anthroposophy. Today, we must do our part and deliver these gifts ever more generously and widely. We need your help!

Our fundraising goal is $12,000. It has been given a strong initial push through graciously offered gifts from a few lead donors amounting to $8,000. Please help us achieve our goal!

Your gifts will help us in three areas:

  • Launch an advertising and promotion campaign in NYC media outlets.
  • Create a seed fund to host major anthroposophical presenters in NYC.
  • Offer high quality live-streaming and recordings of presentations for our website.

More than ever, we are ready to put these resources to work. At the building level in the last year, we’ve transformed the heights and depths, with a new roof and skylight over our auditorium, and a complete ordering and cleansing of our basement’s accumulation of a generation’s worth of papers, supplies, and unsorted detritus. At the human level, we have the return to Council presidency of Jonathan Hilton, who, after a two-decade hiatus (during which he led a successful NYC non-profit mental health service provider), is guiding ASNYC’s next evolutionary stage with a new and renewed leadership team.

This year, you will see a major series introducing basic anthroposophy to newcomers, rich offerings in the natural sciences and the arts, and diverse programs on contemporary issues and themes, illuminated through the expansive perspectives of Rudolf Steiner and anthroposophy.

As individuals and as a community today, we face extremely dark forces and steep challenges. We believe anthroposophy has been brought to the world and to our city as a beacon of clarity and hope for just such a time. Together we can make this beacon shine!

Please consider a donation today online by clicking here, or via check by mail, payable to Anthroposophical Society in America New York Branch, Inc., and mail to Anthroposophy NYC, 138 West 15th St, New York, NY 10011.

On behalf of the Council of Anthroposophy NYC,

Jonathan Hilton, President
