Author Sarah Dennehy discusses her recently published book, Mindful with Me: Connecting with Your Child through Daily Mindfulness.
Sarah’s presentation will be introduced by Jesus Amadeo, co-leader of the School of Spiritual Science at Anthroposophy NYC. He writes, “Sarah’s book describes how to create practices with children that will lead to an increase in the child’s capacity to concentrate and relax, two essential components of harmonious development as described in Anthroposophy. Such practices help both adults and children to restore the rightful hierarchy and alignment of spirit-soul-body.”
Mindfulness, or present moment awareness, can be referred to as a space – a space between thoughts, space for observation, the space between stimulus and response. The ability to take this intentional pause is cultivated through a consistent mindfulness practice. And although mindfulness provides numerous mental and physical benefits for both adults and children, slowing down and pausing is rarely promoted or valued.
In a technology-obsessed, achievement oriented culture, is it possible to teach children the value of a mindful pause and a daily practice? How do we teach this skill to our children when we struggle with the pause as well? Sarah Dennehy, author of Mindful with Me: Connecting with Your Child through Daily Mindfulness, explores the mindful pause and how to share it with our children. Sarah is a Licensed Behavior Specialist and Director of Programs for a non-profit that provides mindfulness education to schools and community members.
